Juventus has been disqualified from participating in competitions season while Chelsea has been fined €10 million ($11m) by UEFA for violating financial regulations.
The removal of Juventus, from the Europa Conference League, which is considered a lower tier competition was expected due to their involvement in an accounting case. As a consequence they had already lost 10 points in Serie A. Missed out on qualifying for the Champions League.
In light of this decision Fiorentina is set to take Juventus place in the Europa Conference League playoffs scheduled to start on August 24th.
Additionally UEFA has imposed a fine of €10 million on Juventus for breaching play (FFP) rules. Furthermore there is a possibility of a €10 million deduction if the club fails to comply with UEFAs financial monitoring regulations in seasons.
Although Juventus expressed regret over the ruling they have decided not to appeal it. In a statement on their website Juventus President Gianluca Ferrero stated that they disagree with how their defense was interpreted but remain convinced, about the legitimacy of their actions and the validity of their arguments.
"However we have made the decision not to challenge this verdict. Despite the pain it brings we can now shift our focus onto the season prioritizing our performance, on the field than dwelling in legal battles."
In an instance Chelsea has agreed to pay a settlement of €10m to UEFA for providing financial information from 2012 to 2019 during the ownership of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.
Chelseas current ownership group led by Americans acknowledged " discrepancies in reporting during the previous ownership era" in May last year as confirmed by UEFA.
Despite their victories in the Champions League in 2012 and 2021 Chelsea has not secured qualification for any competitions in the season.
UEFA initiated an investigation against Juventus in December due to suspicions of breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations following actions taken against the club by Italian prosecutors.
As a result of authorities deducting 10 points from Juventus Serie A standing they were unable to secure a four finish and consequently missed out on qualifying for next seasons Champions League. Instead they finished seventh— enough for participation in the third tier Conference League. AC Milan claimed the Champions League spot instead.
The allegations of accounting prompted UEFAs club finance investigators to terminate their settlement agreement, with Juventus and impose new sanctions as announced by the governing body of European soccer.The eventful 2022 23 season, for Juventus was marked by the departure of club figures, including president Andrea Agnelli and vice president Pavel Nedvěd, a legendary player.
Moreover Juventus faced a setback in their football participation for a two year period between 2006 and 2008 due, to the consequences of the Calciopoli corruption scandal.
