The Nigerian Army along, with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and a private security outfit called Tantita recently discovered an oil refining site in Ughelli south, Delta.
According to Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations the security operatives conducted an operation at the site based on intelligence received. During their operation they found 35 Modular Ovens that were being used for crude oil refining along with 3 fabricated reservoirs, 30 dug out reservoirs and 75 galvanized pipes.
Onyema stated that this discovery is part of efforts to curb oil theft and protect the South South regions oil sector from sabotage. The operation was carried out by troops from the 181 Amphibious Battalion of the Nigerian Army operating in the 6 Division Area of Responsibility. They collaborated with personnel from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps as members of Tantita Security. The illegal oil refining site was located in Owahwa community, within Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
