The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a manager representing artists and his associate who are involved in the distribution of drugs, to partygoers at high end nightclubs and lounges in the Lekki and Island areas of Lagos state. Mr. Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy made this announcement in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja.
According to Babafemi these arrests were made based on intelligence received that the suspects were expecting a shipment of "Colorado," a strain of marijuana from Los Angeles, United States.
The first arrest was made at Abdulraheem Osenis residence in Lekki, Lagos State when the "Colorado" package arrived on July 23. Oseni, also known as Papalampa confessed during interrogation that he had been involved in this trade for the three years.
"In addition to the drug business " stated Babafemi "Oseni revealed that he also organizes shows for artists both within Lagos and internationally."
Further investigation revealed that 10 packages weighing 2.5kg containing "Colorado" were intercepted by NDLEA operatives at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, in Ikeja and were linked to Oseni.
Babafemi mentioned that they found drugs hidden in coffee cans and duvets. He also mentioned that during a search, at Osenis place the NDLEA officers discovered some amounts of "Colorado," a scale, for weighing and other related items.
"A businessman named Nnadi Kingsley Ikenna, who resides in Ikoyi, Lagos was also connected to the shipment. However when the consignment arrived he happened to be, in South Africa.
While the authorities kept a watch on Ikennas residence in Ikoyi they also made efforts to apprehend him at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja.
Finally, on Thursday July 27th when he returned to Nigeria via a Kenya Airlines flight NDLEA officers were there to welcome him.
According to Babafemis statement Ikenna acknowledged owning a portion of the consignment."
