In a thrilling victory Amy Okonkwo spearheaded the D'Tigress team with a 29 points and 13 rebounds propelling Nigeria to an 83 65 triumph and securing their spot, in the quarterfinals. The Nigerian womens basketball squad, known as D'Tigress has advanced to the stage of the ongoing 2023 FIBA Womens AfroBasket tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.
On Sunday at the BK Arena D'Tigress showcased their determination for a consecutive continental title by defeating Egypt with a score of 83 65 earning them an early qualification to the last eight.
After dominating in both the two quarters with scores of 18 10 and 24 13 D'Tigress faced some resistance from Egypt in the third quarter. The African team managed to narrow the gap by winning that quarter with a score of 19 14.
The final quarter was fiercely contested as Egypt fought hard to make a comeback. Nevertheless D'Tigress remained secured victory by outscoring their opponents with a final quarter score of 27 23. This sealed their win at 83 65.
Amy Okonkwos outstanding performance led the scoring charts with her contribution of 29 points and 13 rebounds—guiding D'Tigress towards both victory and a place in the quarterfinals. Additionally Murjanatu Musa showcased brilliance on court, with her contribution of 18 points while Nicole Enabosi also made her mark by scoring figures—achieving ten points during the game.Nigeria has achieved a three victories, over Egypt as they previously defeated them in both 2015 and 2017.
At this point Nigeria has already secured their spot in the stage. However Egypt and DR Congo will have to compete in a qualifying round to determine if they can advance and join Nigeria or if they will have to return.
